FSCC statistics

Here are some statistics regarding the FSCCs.

When the grid stays within the traditional 5x5 limits, the numbers of black and white squares sum to 25. Where their sum is greater, this is because the grid has strayed outside the 5x5 square. In such a case, the number of black squares is calculated based on the smallest enclosing rectangle.

The columns 2-7 record the number of lights of each length. In FSCC 37, this includes the word FIVE.

Nearly all FSCC grids have 180-degree symmetry (and some had more, too). FSCC 32's grid lacked it, but was symmetrical about the diagonal from top left to bottom right.

The simpler grids are the most popular. The simplest FSCC grids are those of FSCCs 6, 11, 13 and 14: the only ones to date with no more than 5 lights and 6 checked squares. Three of these FSCCs were the most popular ever.
